Scottish Hypnotherapy Conference
I’ve had a very busy time over the last week or so and had the pleasure of attending the Annual Scottish Hypnotherapy Conference in a beautiful castle in Menstrie near Stirling. The Conference was jam-packed with information and I thought I’d do a blog this week about the Conference just to show you some examples of areas hypnotherapy is successfully used for. These include hypnotherapy for children hypnotherapy for weight loss and how you can use hypnotherapy for self care.
Hypnotherapy for Children
Having recently done further training in hypnosis for children, this was an area I was very interested in. Hypnosis can be very effective in children as they have such vivid imaginations, which makes them excellent hypnotherapy subjects. The training i did recently was led by Kelley T Woods from the USA (that’s Kelley in the picture with me above) and it was great to spend time with her at the Conference and learn from her experience as a Paediatric Hypnotherapist. Examples of areas hypnotherapy can help children with are:
- Stress and anxiety
- Fears and phobias
- Sports performance
- Speech difficult
Virtual Gastric Band Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is used very successfully for weight issues and the Virtual Gastric Band hypnotherapy was discussed at the Conference. Sheila Granger, a Hypnotherapist from Hull presented on how she had been involved in clinical trials with Virtual Gastric Band hypnotherapy. Sheila was able to show amazing results for the people involved in the study with participants achieving an example of 7 pounds weight loss in the first week and 1-2 pounds a week thereafter. I have also had VGB hypnotherapy clients achieve great results and my sessions also include looking at lifestyle, e.g. what you eat?, why you overeat?, how much exercise do you get?, Do you drink enough water?, are you managing stress levels? By dealing with all these areas we’re able to make sure changes last.
The Importance of Self Care
Throughout the day there were lots of examples of how hypnosis helps people cope with stress, anxiety and panic attacks. A common theme was the importance of taking time to ‘just be’. By that I mean not worrying about what’s happened in the past or what might happen in the future but just being present in the moment. Examples include EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) or tapping, laughter therapy, meditation and mindfulness, all techniques I currently include in my sessions.
How can Hypnotherapy help you
My biggest takeaway from the Conference was that the days of hypnotherapy being thought of as ‘magic’ or ‘something to be afraid of’ are all gone. There are many enthusiastic and caring hypnotherapists helping people every day and also gathering evidence and research on how hypnotherapy can help. So if you want to find out how hypnotherapy can help you, please get in touch. Love Irene
